Saturday 10 Dec 2016

Today we covered the Pillars of the Prayer:

You must perform the pillars, if you are negligent of any of the pillar, the WHOLE prayer becomes invalid. There are 14 pillars.

  1. Qiyaam (to stand up) “.. and stand before Allah, with obedience” (2:238). And in the hadith the prophet, peace be upon him commanded the man who prayed badly to stand while praying (and if that’s not possible then sitting and if that’s not possible while lying down).
    • In the supererogatory prayers, you may perform them while sitting down.
  2. The opening Takbeer (to say Allahu Akbar).   The prophet, صلى الله عليه وسلم, said “Then face the qiblah and say the takbeer!
  3. Recitation of the Fatiha. “No prayer [is accepted] from the one who does not recite al-Fatiha”
    • It must be recited in every rak’ah
    • Do you have to recite it when praying behind an imam?
  4. The rukoo’ (the bowing) in every rak’ah.
    • Proof: “O you who believe! Bow down, and prostrate yourselves” 22:77
    • It has been established in the Qur’an, Sunnah and consensus of the scholars
    • How should the rukoo’ be performed?
  5. Standing up from the Rukoo’
  6. To stand up straight (after standing up from the Rukoo’)
    • A description of the above two pillars (5 &6 are combined)
  7. The Sujood (prostration)
    • The sujood is done upon seven body parts, what are they?
    • How should it be done?
    • The sujood is when a servant is nearest to his Lord and it is one of the greatest pillars of the prayer.
    • You should make dua during sujood
    • What language should the dua be in?
  8. Rising from the sujood and sitting up straight between the two prostrations
  9. Tranquillity while performing all actions of the prayers
  10. The final Tashahhud
  11. To sit for the tashahhud
  12. Sending prayers and blessings upon Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم in the final tashahhud
