Lesson 5: The Relationship between Tawheed Ar-Rubūbiyyah and Al-Ulūhiyyah

  • Recap of previous Lesson
    • The oneness and singling out of Allah in His Lordship (Tawheed Ar-Rububiyyah)
    • The singling out of Allah with our actions and Worship (Tawheed Al-Uluuhiyyah)

The Connection between Ar-Rububiyyah and Al-Uluuhiyyah

  • Tawheed Ar-Rubūbiyyah necessitates  Al-Ulūhiyyah
  • What does this mean? If one acknowledges Tawheed Ar-Rubūbiyyah then he must also accept  Al-Ulūhiyyah

The Connection between Al-Ulūhiyyah and Ar-Rubūbiyyah

  • Tawheed Al-Ulūhiyyah incorporates and includes belief in Ar-Rubūbiyyah
  • What does this mean? If one singles out Allah in his worship then he has already accepted Tawheed Ar-Rubūbiyyah

The Mushrikeen (Polytheists) at the time of the Prophet (ﷺ)

  • They accepted Tawheed Ar-Rubūbiyyah
  • Allah says: “And if you ask them who created them, they will surely say: “Allah”. How then are they turned away (from the worship of Allah, Who created them)?” [Surah Az-Zukhruf (The Gold Adornments) verse]
  • Believing in Tawheed Ar-Rubūbiyyah i.e. accepting and believing that Allah alone is the Creator, Sustainer etc without singling him out in Worship does not enter one into Islam

Misconceptions in our time

  • Many people who follow the ways of the Sufis or Philosophers believe that all that is required for one to be a Muslim is that he or she merely believes that Allah alone is their Lord, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe
  • Although this is an important part of Tawheed (Monotheism), it is NOT sufficient in itself to enter one into Islam
  • We can see from the verses in the Qur’an that the Mushrikeen at the time of the Prophet (ﷺ) accepted the above (i.e. Tawheed Ar-Rubūbiyyah) however they were not Muslims and in fact opposed the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)

Q&A:

  • Definition of “Laa ilaaha illallaah”
  • Some people use the Hadith of slave girl whom the Prophet (ﷺ) asked “where is Allah?”, they claim that this Hadith proves that all that is required for one to be Muslim is to accept Tawheed Ar-Rubūbiyyah, what is their case?
