Lesson 4: Monotheism, the misguidance of Atheism, and balance in the Religion

Oneness of Allah in his Lordship:

  • The vast majority of mankind in the past and in the present accept the existence of a Creator and sustainer
  • Very few people in the history of human beings actually believe in atheism
  • From among the arguments that atheists use:
    • The claim the world came into existence “by natural causes”, “by mother nature”,  or that nature caused itself
    • That non-living forces such as the wind or lightning created living organisms
    • That we evolved from animals or that we are only driven by a need to reproduce
  • How do we know this is false?

Singling out Allah in his Worship:

  • Tawheed Al-Uluhiyya
  • The misguidance of those who make dua to other than Allah, for example “Oh such and such Shaykh, give me such and such” or make dua through them to Allah. This is incorrect

Love, Hope and Fear:

  • Importance of being balanced between hope and fear of Allah
  • We do not go into extremes in any of these things
  • The misguidance of the Sufis who exaggerate in their love of Allah and perform acts which are against the Sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ)
  • The misguidance of the Khawarij who exaggerate in the fear of Allah and oppose that which is in the Qur’an and Sunnah
  • The innovators who went into extreme in their hope in Allah (the Murji’ah) and opposed what the Prophet (ﷺ) taught us
  • Ahlus-Sunnah do not exaggerate in any of them, rather we balance between Love for Allah, Hope in Allah and Fear of Him
  • The statement of Ibnul Qayyim and the example of the bird

The Objective of our Existence

  • Our purpose in our life is to worship Allah
  • Allah says: “And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): “Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities, etc.i. e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah).” Then of them were some whom Allah guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth).” [Surah An-Nahl (The Bee) verse 36]
  • The unfortunate negligence in the Muslim Ummah about Tawheed Al-Uluhiyyah (Oneness of Allah in His Worship) where they make dua to other than Allah, they seek intercession and call upon the dead etc
  • It is obligatory upon the Scholars is that the reject and warn against this shirk
  • What some Muslims are doing today is the same as
  • Allah says: “Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allah only. And those who take Auliya’ (protectors and helpers) besides Him (say): “We worship them only that they may bring us near to Allah.” Verily, Allah will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Truly, Allah guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever.” [Surah Zumar (The Groups) verse 3]
  • Allah says: “And they worship besides Allah things that hurt them not, nor profit them, and they say: “These are our intercessors with Allah.” Say: “Do you inform Allah of that which He knows not in the heavens and on the earth?” Glorified and Exalted be He above all that which they associate as partners with Him!” [Surah Al-Yunus (Jonah) verse 18]
  • Throughout history people have been opposed to this type of Tawheed, i.e. Oneness of Allah in his Worship
  • Allah says: “And of mankind are some who take (for worship) others besides Allah as rivals (to Allah). They love them as they love Allah. But those who believe, love Allah more (than anything else). If only, those who do wrong could see, when they will see the torment, that all power belongs to Allah and that Allah is Severe in punishment.” [Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) verse 165]
  • Shaykh Al-Fawzan’s advice to the Scholars and leaders of the Muslims
  • Anecdote from a Poem

40 Hadith: Lesson 30

Sun 28 July 2019

Lesson 30:

Hadith 19
Recap of Part 1-2 of Hadith no. 19

Part 2: Allah protects whoever has taqwah

  • Allah protects whoever has taqwah and provide for him sources what he never think of it

Part 3: ‘If you ask, ask from Allah and if you seek aid seek aid from Allah’

  • The means of obtaining the goal (worship Allah) is isti’aana (seek help from Allah)
  • Other matters such as to help you is permissible to ask others, but still the sahaaba would not ask others for help
  • The teachers of truth’s objective is to connect you to Allah, as the Prophet (ﷺ) did. The teacher of falsehood’s objective is to call you to themselves (story of a sufi shaykh) not to Allah.
  • If everybody came together to benefit you with something, they will not be able to benefit you except what Allah has written for your favor. If they get together to harm you with something, they will not be able to harm you except what Allah has written against you.
  • With hardship comes ease.

Part 4: Allah’s decree

  • Allah’s decree – everything has been written down – the will of Allah

Part 5: ‘Come to know Allah in ease and He come to know you in times of hardship’

  • Be sincere in your actions in times of ease then Allah protects you in hardship and give good to you
  • Story of the three men in the cave – hadith in Bukhari and Muslim

Sound Creed: Lesson 3

Lesson 3: The Six Pillars of Eemaan

  • The basis of the Islamic Creed is Belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, in the day of Judgement and in the Decree
  • What are the evidences for this from the Qur’an?
    • “It is not Al-Birr (piety, righteousness, and each and every act of obedience to Allah, etc.) that you turn your faces towards east and (or) west (in prayers); but Al-Birr is (the quality of) the one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, the Prophets and gives his wealth, in spite of love for it, to the kinsfolk, to the orphans, and to Al-Masakin (the poor), and to the wayfarer, and to those who ask, and to set slaves free, performs As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and gives the Zakat, and who fulfill their covenant when they make it, and who are As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.) in extreme poverty and ailment (disease) and at the time of fighting (during the battles). Such are the people of the truth and they are Al-Muttaqun (pious – see V. 2:2).” [Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) verse 177]
    • “Verily, We have created all things with Qadar (Divine Pre-ordainments of all things before their creation, as written in the Book of Decrees Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz).” [Surah Al-Qamar (The Moon) verse 49]
    • “The Messenger (Muhammad SAW) believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in Allah, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers. They say, “We make no distinction between one another of His Messengers” – and they say, “We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your Forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all).” [Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) verse 285]
    • “And to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is Ever Encompassing all things.” [Surah An-Nisaa (The Women) verse 126]
  • The Hadith of Jibreel (may peace be upon him)
  • Tawheed, Eemaan and aqeedah is something that was taught by all of the Prophets and Messengers

Belief in Allah:

  • This is the basis of aqeedah (creed)
  • What does belief in Allah involve? What does it mean to believe in Allah?
  • Belief in Allah consists of 3 parts:
    • Tawheed Ar-Rububiyya (Oneness in the Lordship of Allah)
    • Tawgeed Al-Uluhiyya (Oneness in the worship of Allah)
    • Tawheed Al Asmaa Was-Sifaat (Oneness in the Names and Attributes of Allah)
  • The four things decreed by Allah and written by an Angel for a child when he is still in the womb of his mother
  • Putting one’s trust in Allah and taking the means to achieve your goals
  • Making dua to Allah alone, not asking the “Pirs” or “Maulanas” or Shaykhs or making dua via them. Only Allah can hear your dua and answer it
