Chapter 2: The necessity of learning the Islamic Aqeedah

  • Obligation to learn the islamic aqeedah – understand its meaning and what it is built upon
  • Understand what opposes the correct aqeedah, and what rectifies your deficiencies
  • S. Muhammad: 19
  • Knowledge rectifies your intentions
  • The need to understand the meaning of laa ilaaha illa Allah and acting upon it
  • Muhammad (ﷺ) became a Prophet at the age of 40  and for more than a decade he taught tawheed
  • It is obligatory that a person focuses on learning about aqeedah
  • Learning about people of bidah (innovation)
  • In the Quran there are many verses about aqeedah especially the Meccan surahs
  • S. Fatihah: Ibnul-Qayyim says: know that this surah it incorporates the core objectives, principles. Three names of Allah. Everything is done for the sake of Allah.
    • Iyyaka na’budu – our worship only to Allah
    • Iyyaka nastain – we ask Allah only
    • Seeking guidance from Allah – “guide us to the straight path”
    • Recompense of the servants, day of judgement – hell or paradise
  • The whole quran includes both types of tawheed:
    • Tawheed with regards to knowledge and information (tawheed al-rububiyyah and Asmaa was-sifat)
    • Tawheed of actions (tawheed al-uluhiyyah)
  • Many people read the Qur’an but don’t understand the correct aqeedah, instead they follow their forefathers
  • There are three types of tawheed: the salaf mentioned it as well (Abu Hanifa etc.)
    • These categories are taken from the Quran (S. Fatihah, S. Nas)
  • “Hakimiyyah” is a subcategory of tawheed al-rububiyyah, not an individual type of tawheed

Chapter 3: Preaching the Muslim Aqeedah

  • Calling the people to the correct aqeedah
  • S. Baqarah: 256-257
  • All Messengers and Prophets (may peace be upon them all) began their mission to tell people to worship Allah alone and stay away from the false deities (S. Hud: 50, S. Nahl: 36)
  • Rectify the aqeedah in the people
  • Firm foundation – correct aqeedah
  • Muadh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) was sent to Yemen to call people to the correct aqeedah (tawheed)
  • For 13 years the Prophet (ﷺ) preached tawheed (Oneness of Allah) in Mecca, before teaching about zakah, jihad, salah, hajj and the halal and Haraam rulings (drinking, usury, adultery)
  • The statement of Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Abdulwahhab
